The festival season is fast approaching, so it’s time to get excited! 2016 is going to be a big year, with Glastonbury, T in the Park and Bestival featuring headline acts such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fatboy Slim and Rihanna.
When you think of music festivals the first things that usually spring to mind are music and camping with a group of friends, but in recent years festival fashion has become a huge part of the experience too. Festival goers can be found in everything from expensive floral dresses to outlandish Aztec head pieces!
While fancy dress and festival outfits are wonderful on the eyes, it can be devastating for your clothes – especially if you take the unpredictable weather and number of sweaty, unshowered people into account. Our thoughts are with the thousands of clothes lost to festivals every year.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t take a nice dress or a special shirt to the festival – by all means you should dress to impress – but there are a couple simple things you can do to make sure your clothes survive the main event. Here’s the checklist:
1 – Prepare for rain
There’s always a chance of rain in the UK, even in the height of summer unfortunately. There’s nothing worse than wearing soggy clothes, so remember to pack a poncho! They’re light, disposable and do wonders to protect your clothes from getting wet and muddy!
2 – Remember your wellies
This sounds like an obvious tip, but it shouldn’t be forgotten as all festivals will inevitably turn into a slip and slide at some point, no matter how good the weather is. Find a good pair of serious, tall wellies and even the smartest trousers can stay safely tucked into your boots. Buying wellies in the festival always costs an extortionate amount of money, don’t be the wally that forgets!
3 – Separate your dirty clothes
A great method for stopping the spread of mud and dirt in your luggage is to use ziplock bags to keep dirty clothes separate. Even a plastic carrier bag will help keep your cleaner clothes dry and fresh even if you’re in a leaky tent!
4 – Clean your clothes straight away
You’re exhausted, you‘ve been drinking and dancing for days and all you want to do when you get through your front door is collapse into a hibernation slumber. STOP! That’s the worst possible thing you can do when it comes to saving your clothes. Wash everything as soon as possible, taking time to use baby wipes to scrape off tough stains to prevent dirt from clogging the washing machine.
That is it! It is so simple, yet a lot of people every year will end up unhappy, upset and distraught when their festival fashion pieces end up in tatters. Now you won’t be one of them!
